ONE OF THOSE LONG OVERDUE MUSIC POST WE HAVE PROMISED IS FINALLY HERE!

what is it about the far dark side of eastern europe that i always want to associate with eurodance, even if that is not quite the only music there? since we wont be doing geylang happy hour this week, here are my top 3 picks for this week (and then some more):

DJ Smash & Fast Food – Волна (Dj Antoine vs Yoko remix)

probably best dancing i have ever seen in a video. those hard girls would probably kill you on the dance floor with an imperceptible flick of the hips; it just looks so wrong, it’d be like trying to flex a carrot. DJ Smash is the bloke with the animal head – he also did another track i’ve been hearing a lot of on moskva.fm – Moscow Never Sleeps – a track on which some charming blonde chanteuse warbles “Я люблю тебя, Москва!” (i love you, moscow!). i hated the song on first listen, in fact, neither would i say i’d be attracted to the sound alone of Волна (volna, which means waves), but the video takes it to a different level for me, what with its bold chunky colors and flexible girls, and forcing myself to translate and learn the lyrics of songs gives them a little more meaning for me on second listen.

Natalka Karpa – A Kalyna Ne Verba

in any case, this one from Ukraine is another good example of something pretty repetitive. the video is entirely in CG, yet it seems completely and inexplicably hypnotic to watch. i enjoy the emphasis placed on her curvy, fat hips. mmm.

Play & Mix – Twoje Ciało

and then the best find of all: this polish dance hit by Play&Mix features a couple of dorky middle-aged blokes with embarrassing headgear doing some extremely energetic gyrations. avert your eyes in horror! but all the same you can really tell that they had lots of fun making the video, along with a slightly underdressed female vocalist, and transportation! their brilliantly excessive use of cheap video tricks and sound effects make an otherwise typical sounding dance track into something that is virtually on the epic scale of wrongness!

ENJOY.
